White House Math: Choose The Lowest Common Denominator

Rick Santelli goes on a rant that reflects much of fiscal conservative America's opinions of this stimulus. Is it "Rant of the Year" Worthy? Hardly. Was it well-supported or intelligent? Not in the slightest.

But in a stunning example of the dawning of the "Age of Post-Partisanship" , after repeatedly ignoring more responsible, reasonable, and salient criticisms of the stimulus, the WH via Gibbs decides to respond in an attempt to make the bumbling Santelli the face of the opposition. And he does so in the style of the old Life commercials, "Read it and you'll LIKE it!" "Santelli Likes It!" Or, as parents of young children who watch Noggin know, "I tried it and now I like it!" a la the dirty, dirty Yo Gabba Gabba.

Give us all a break. Daily we are reading stories like this, where people, upon the raising of their mortgage payments, just decided to stop paying altogether with no effort of mitigation. All Gibbs can muster is a bullying, "Read it!" rather than actually try to address the position as a legitimate concern. It's not an uncommon or uninformed one. In fact, I think he would find that many who voted for his boss share that same opinion.

In my mind, the face of the legitimate opposition to the stimulus is, hands down, Eric Cantor. The same Eric Cantor to whom Obama famously responded in that signature post-partisan style of his, "I won."

First It Was The Latin Mass...

And now this?

But for Vatican II, there is no way I would have converted to Roman Catholicism. None. Latin masses are fine, but this is taking the Catholic church back to its most rotten of roots. I can understand allowing these individuals back to practice their faith and take communion, but returning to the episcopate?

I'm not a complete Democrat hater. Afterall, my maid-of-honor and bestest friend is such a raging D that she called me three months after she got married to tell me that she had discovered that her husband was registered as a [gasp!] Republican! True story, "I feel dirty!" Now we joke that she probably would have had an easier time dealing with adultery. Our friendship has made managed to make it over 15 years and we've always been on opposite sides of the aisle.

So in an effort to appease one of my [only? lol] readers and demonstrate that Republicans are not all full of criticism, I will post about things that Democrats are doing that I applaud or agree with. I thought I've been doing this all along, but evidently it hasn't been as obvious.

So here is a partial list of what has been going right lately:

Walt Minnick's efforts and intent are definitely applaudable.

Executive salary caps are good.

Senator Ben Nelson.

Gov. Paterson ignoring the Kennedy family and appointing Gillibrand.

Obama's selection of Steven Chu as Secretary of the Department of Energy.

I hope that is sufficient to my Obama voting reader. I'm not going to lie, I'm not hopeful about much of this new administration, otherwise, I would have voted for it.

Obama and House Dems Jaunt To Kingsmill Resort On Taxpayers' Dime

In a time of economic crisis, it would behoove the President and our congressmen to not be blowing taxpayer dollars on jaunts to spendy exclusive resorts such as Kingsmill in Williamsburg, VA. We heard Democrat after Democrat decry the wastefulness of AIG, automakers, etc. for taking/asking for taxpayer money when they are being chauffeured to business weekends on private company jets. Give me a freaking break. The utter hypocritical narcissism of these clowns is repugnant: these jerks continually force us to foot the bill for their own private parties, retreats and other ridiculous expenditures. Put your money where your mouth is.

*Thank you, Dad. I know you cried when you weren't invited to this shindig [we all know how you love a good party] considering your 2007 taxes alone could have paid for it. The least they could have done is steal you a towel in thanks.

Whoopsadaisy!

When I was a little girl, my brother would wreak all sorts of havoc for which I would get blamed [by default because I'm older]. I also would be the one to get into trouble for getting caught hitting back if he socked me and they didn't see it. As a mom of two, I frequently commit the very same crime of my parents: blaming the wrong child for the bad act.

The U.N. must have turned around just in time to catch the little brat.

*Dave, I mean little brat in the most endearing way possible. :)

Executive Caps Executives

Obama rightly imposes executive pay cap limits on businesses seeking bailout benefits. I have heard many a fiscal conservative complain that this is dangerous giving the sophomoric slippery slope argument regarding government ownership of businesses. To that I say, this is not government ownership of private businesses, this is business welfare. If there were ownership, there would be some exchange of shares for money. There is not. Taking part in the bailout is completely elective.

The unfortunate part of his announcement, however, is how he shadily mentions the ridiculous special interests free-for-all clown show that is the stimulus bill as if these two things are intertwined. They are not.
